Lesson IV Activity
Framed Pressed Botanicals
The first activity of this lesson is pretty straight forward: Framing Pressed Botanicals.
Now that the plant press is complete, it’s time to put it to use. This project calls for pressing some plants, and putting them in a frame. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.
The Final Product
After crafting the plant press, I selected some nearby flowers from my garden and neighborhood and went to work. Peppermint, lemon balm, sage, spearmint, mimosa, gotu kola, bacopa, magnolia, and rose have all been snipped, pressed, and dried.
The second step was the purchase of a 5x7 bronze floating picture frame to put the above mentioned flowers in. This frame worked well, and was a pretty good deal for the money. It was slightly difficult to open at first, but I think it will be easier with practice.
Finally, I selected my flowers. 5”x7” did not alot me as much room as I would have liked, so I had to be selective with my plants. I went with a sprig of lemon balm leaves surrounded by the inflorescence from the peppermint and spearmint that flanks it in the garden.
After some quick assembly, I have a whimsical little memento of this summer’s garden bounty.
